Le Havre – The Artists – Bogolyubov, Alexey (Alexei)

Alexey (Alexei) Bogolyubov (1824-1896) was a Russian born painter, though he spent most of his professional painting life in Paris. He had previously joined the Russian Navy and spent his earlier days travelling.
He taught painting to many others, amongst them the previously mentioned Alexander Beggrov. He painted extensively along the coastline of Normandy. More of his works of other Normandy cities will appear on this site (see list further below).

NOTE: The position of the lighthouse at the harbour entrance still exists, but the lighthouse itself was replaced after the Germans destroyed it towards the end of WWII.
NOTE: Still today many cruise ships arrive at Le Havre, sometimes as many as four at a time.
