Ferry: The closest ferry harbours to and from the UK are Cherbourg, Caen/Ouistreham and Le Havre.
Air: The international airport for Caen (click here to access the airport’s web site) is very close-by with regular flights to the UK.
Within Bayeux
There is no useable bus service, but you don’t need one. When entering the town, park at the large car park in front of the Tapestry museum. The rest on done on foot. There are no hills, so wheelchairs have an easy time apart from the cobblestones.
Restaurants
There are some 90 restaurants in Bayeux, ranging from “forget it” to “very good”. I’ve personally tried the “Le Florentin” on a good luck try, and was not disappointed. The restaurant looked more like a snackbar, but the food was surprising good and home cooked.
Hotels
There is a reasonable accommodation offering in the city, but it’s not luxurious nor are there a lot. Prices are moderate.
Things To See/Things To Do
- The Tapestry museum and its exhibits (this goes without saying)
- The British War Cemetery
- The Reporters Memorial
- The Notre-Dame cathedral (especially if it’s raining)
- Walk around the old city centre and discover the Aure river
- Visit the Battle of Normandy museum
- Go on one of the many D-Day tours on offer (this brings you to the D-Day beaches)
