Le Havre – The Artists – Overview and Map

Normandy, particularly the coastline between Deauville and Dieppe, has been a favorite spot for many painters over the years. The clear sky, great light and fantastic subjects make this place a heaven for painters (and photographers).

Particularly the impressionist painters movement, but not limited to them, choose Normandy as THE place to be. Many now famous names, like Monet, Pissarro, Boudin and Dufy spent many years painting the sea, harbours and ships.

Below is a map with the places where these artists created their works of art. I’ve only listed one place per city they painted in, and this map is limited to Le Havre and its surroundings since there were many artists to catalog.

NOTE: Click on an “art” icon on the map below to see a painting of the artist, their name and then click on the artist’s name at the bottom of the painting to see all his paintings of that area (in a new window).

NOTE: You can zoom in and out of the map! BUT remember, that one icon may hide another one if you are zoomed out too much.

Le Havre and its surrounding was a popular area, not only because of the abundance of subjects to paint, and the fantastic light, but also because of the direct train link with Paris.

Here are the painters/artists who painted in Le Havre (a “*” indicates that the artist did not worked directly in Le Havre itself, instead worked closeby, a link “” to the artist’s works will appear below when published):
