The building of the castle of Epoisses started in the 10th century, but major updates were made in the 14th and 18th century. The castle has a large defensive moat all around the castle grounds.

The castle’s domain has walls along it, and there are some gates, including a drawbridge, to let people in.

Once inside you are in the domain of the castle, with the main castle itself but also a dovecot and other buildings.

The castle is a must-visit! There is a lot of history in this castle. The outside of the castle can be visit all-year on your own. Visits of the inside of the castle are performed with a guide, and only from the 1st of July to the 31st of August (everyday except Tuesday).

Since Epoisses is famous for its cheese, you can sample Epoisse cheese inside the castle.
