Museum of Miniatures and Film Sets of Lyon

Lyon – Miniatures and Cinema Museum

Lyon is the place where cinema was invented (by the Lumieres brothers, who have a complete museum dedicated to them in Lyon), but there is also a small and very cute museum dedicated to the movie making miniatures and sets.

Located in the Old Lyon part (“Vieux Lyon“) of the city, close to cathedral, the building on its own is already pretty impressive.

The museum has very realistic miniatures used in the movies. Looking at them, the incredible detail is amazing. These miniatures were used as backdrops in several movies (many French, but some Hollywood).

Looking at this library it would look like it’s a normal library, but again, it’s a miniature. Just look at the detail (click on the photo for a bigger version).

The museum is located in a very old building in the old quarter, so it has steep and narrow stairs and corridors.

TIP: If you have problems with stairs or are in a wheelchair, better ignore this one.

But it’s not only miniatures they are showing on the three floors; they also have movie sets, like the one above.

There are stairs all over the place, some leading into a single room. Interesting way of discovering the artefacts.

They also show movie props:

This movie prop, from the latest Batman movie, had just arrived and was waiting for placement.

Summary

This is an interesting museum, with some very realistic movie sets and miniatures. Often it’s unbelievable how detailed they are. It’s an interesting hour…
